SpiritWars Discussion / Re: What you would like to see in a new SW

Re-pops were one the best parts of the game.  At least for me anyway.  Remember there was an abort game button too if a map would come up impassable or unplayable.  Players should understand an abort in that situation.  Keep up the good work and hope to enjoy SW for xmas.  It would be an awesome gift to all returning.

I actually like the idea of playing against more than one opponent.  However, in my experience, this has rarely led to a fair game.  Two friends ganging up on the unknown player seems to always happen.  My only idea for the game is the maps be randomly generated.  Completely generated for each game.  Before there seemed to be a lot of maps, however they seemed to be picked from that that large list.  Players were gaining huge advantages by having these maps stored on their cpu and knowing exactly where your castle was just by playing enough games.  Basically each game played gave them experience and another map for their list.  I would like to see SW come back as original as possible and then build from there.  In the end, players are missing the thrill of playing SW and talking in the lobby with gamer "geeks" they can truly relate too.  As many headaches as the game brought to me, the challenges and thrills it created have never been replaced by any other game.

I had a pretty mean dungeon using Cupid and various control spells.  I used a couple other pieces that would give me the color of the spirits I took control of.  When you face a dungeon that is using half your spirits against you, it can be tough.  I also used Diana for a while, she is beast by herself.

Thank you for working so hard Lyn.  I also want thank Bret for stepping in.  I hope everything is going well.  I know this game is amazing, frustrating at times, and I love everything about it.  I know it can be a success.  I will be changing my call of duty screen name once we are up and running.  I think it will bring many curious gamers our way.  I will be looking forward to some good competition with these new players.  Again, thank you!

I think I like the game as it was. We need no changes except random hexes each game as apposed to random maps.  As much as the game irritated me at times, I always came back.  It's the one game I still miss and think of every so often.  Nothing is filling the void of SW.  If revenue is the issue, then we should increase the monthly charge.  I think it was $65 a year before.  Maybe $10 or$15 a month would get us where we need to be.  We need its simplicity so it increases our odds of finding a programmer.

The more experience you have in SW, the better you got with first move.  High rated players usually had solid dungeons and were used to being first move which is helpful.  When the game returns, they definitely need something built in that randomizes every map.  The fact the Minmaxer knew the maps, castle location most of the time, and had first move is not a minor advantage, it's monumental.  A thousand games should gain you a lot of strategy and experience but shouldn't give anyone that advantage of castle location.  No discredit to his dungeon building, game strategy, or game knowledge they were all excellent.  His patience to save a spell for a second move archer or other rare spirit was probably the most valuable tactic I learned from him.  I suppose that is called patience.  Most first move players would rush too much and end up in trouble.  I don't think the maps need to be changed in size but just randomized individual hexes(1/8) rather than random map 24 of 250.  This would keep vision important which I always liked.

Spirit Wars is not up and running yet.  There are some programmer issues at the moment.  We are all waiting and preparing our troops for now.

I know there is still much needed for the game to return.  But does anyone have a tentative time frame on when the game will be up and running?  I love the game and would be willing to pay more to play.
