General Development Notes / Merry Christmas!
« on: December 19, 2013, 08:50:06 AM »
Good Morning Everyone!

Just an update.  With the Christmas holiday coming up, things have been very busy at my primary job.  My buddy, also works at the same place.  So we are working on the game, but its been slow as we haven't had much time.

Both him and I are taking some holiday vacation time to spend with friends/family, so I expect that there won't be any significant breakthroughs until after the New Year.

I'm sorry this has been delayed.  It's frustrating to me that this hasn't gone as planned, but that's Murphy's law!

We are still moving, but have ran into some difficulties.  I posted a separate post about it.

General Development Notes / When does the Beta start?
« on: December 12, 2013, 09:59:10 PM »
So I've been working on getting the beta test online.  However, I'm having some issues with getting the server to work right because the current OS available to us on the server side is a lot newer than what was used in the past.  And there are some compatibilities.

I was REALLY REALLY trying hard to get it up by thanksgiving, but that didn't happen :(

I've reached out to a friend of mine who is a better application coder than me.  I'm having him take a look and see if he can see what I'm missing.  I will provide more details soon.

I've received all of the beta tester information!  Thank you very much!  As soon as I have the first Beta test client available and a working server you will be given information on how to get it!

General Development Notes / Looking for Beta Testers
« on: November 19, 2013, 07:02:44 PM »
I am in need of some beta testers.  We are getting close to having a beta test server online.  If you are interested, here is what you need to do.

Send me a Private Message with the following information:

1:  Approximate age of the PC/Laptop that you will be playing on
2:  What Operating system are you running.
3:  How much memory do you have
4:  What type of internet connection do you have, example:  DSL, Cable, Fiber, Satellite, etc

You will also have to indicate in the message that you agree to the following conditions of being a beta tester.  This is an all or nothing thing.  So just put in the message "I agree to the conditions of being a beta tester" if you want to proceed.

1:  As a beta tester, you realize that while unlikely it is possible that the software you are testing could cause corruption to your PC, which may cause you to lose data, have to re-install your operating system, or other catastrophic PC problems.    You will hold harmless SpiritWars and the developer of SpiritWars and the hosting company hosting the game of any damages.
2:  As a beta tester you will be given access to a special private area of these forums to post about problems or improvements you see as needed.  You will be required to play the game and report on a weekly basis about your experiences.
3:  As a beta tester you will be not be compensated in any form for your efforts.  Any reward for participating in the Beta Testing phase of SpiritWars will be at the sole discretion of SpiritWars.

During the beta phase there will be no charges for playing the game.

Look forward to hearing from you.

General Development Notes / Where did he go? Have you seen him?
« on: November 11, 2013, 06:18:40 PM »
Sorry I have been missing for a little while.

I had something come up regarding my 20 year old daughter that I had to deal with, and it caused me to have to spend a lot of time away from here.  But I'm back, and working on SpiritWars.

I had originally planned to have it up in a testing phase last weekend, but I'm a couple weeks behind.  I'm very sorry!

This is great!  Anybody who you know that use to play or you think would like to play get them on the Forum.  That is where we will be coordinating the testing!

General Development Notes / The Resume of a G33k
« on: October 24, 2013, 07:11:22 PM »
Where do I start?   :o  I guess I can start at the beginning...

My Mom and Dad met... oh wait... you probably didn't need me to go back THAT far!   ;D

My dad was a self taught Computer G33k (and HAM radio) and he got me started in computers.  In the early 80s (yes, I'm old) I had a PC at home and was writing BASIC programs on my VIC-20.  I then moved to playing around with the short lived PCjr, the clone PCs, and eventually to bigger and better things.

I started working a tech job in 1993 and quickly moved up the ranks... learning... growing... getting fatter... lol!

Along the way I had a daughter, and I got married... in that order... I know... I'm bad...

Since those early days... I've leveled-up in my G33k class... from a plain G33k... to a Hyper-G33k... to a Mega-G33k... to an Absolute-G33k... to where I am today... Epic-G33k...

I have worked on every MS operating system EVER created... from DOS 1.0 to Windows 8.1... I've been working on the Internet before most people even knew it existed!  My first modem was a 1200bps modem, and didn't even support touch-tone dialing!  Wow... that was a long time ago.

I now work for a Fortune 500 company.  I grew up in San Jose, CA... but in 2000 I moved up to the Portland Metro area in Oregon.

To make this a well rounded Resume... I thought I should mention some non-G33ky stuff... well... sorta...

Hobbies:  Reading, Watching TV, playing World of Tanks, and in general being a G33k

Family:  I've been Married for almost 17 years, and I have a 20 year old daughter.  My dad passed away when I was 17, but my mom and two siblings are still alive and kicking!  I'm the only G33k in the family though!

Friends:  I don't have a lot of friends, I tend to be an introvert.  Which means I spend most of my time by myself  :)

4 Legged Family:  We have 3 dogs.  A Great Dane, a Yorkie, and a Chiweenie.  We also have a cat, but she's my wife's cat... I'm just not a cat person.

Other:  I have recently been approched by NW Natural Gas for an opportunity to supply gas to them.  We haven't worked out the details yet, but they've indicated with my own natural gas supply I should be a millionaire quickly!  :o

Feel free to ask me any questions... and I'll feel free not to answer them... lol

News / Re: BIG BIG BIG NEWS!!!
« on: October 23, 2013, 10:41:21 PM »
Hello there everyone.  I wanted to reply to this thread and let everyone know.

This afternoon, Lyn and I signed the contract!  You don't know me, but I'm the engineer that Lyn has been in touch with.

I have never played SpiritWars or any other card game either online or in person (I'm assuming solitaire doesn't count).

I will post some more information shortly, but I wanted to let you know that as of now I'm on the job so to speak.  I hope to have something online to begin a public beta test within the next 3 weeks or so, or maybe even sooner.

The public beta will initially go online pretty much just as it was before it went offline.  Then we will start working on some of the issues and bugs in the game before bringing it totally live.

Stay tuned for more information.

Want to know more about me?  Stay tuned for that also.
